"Begin with the Above in Mind"
Colossians 3:1-2
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
3: If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2: And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.
- As believers/Christians we are told to seek things that are above
- Winning souls, spreading the gospel
- Letting our light shine- the Love of Jesus flow into, though, and out of us
- We must set our minds and keep them on what is above
- God’s way of being right and doing right
- So when temptation comes we can stand against it
- Is your mind focused more on things of the earth than the things of God?
2 Corinthians 4:18
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
18 Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting.
- Anything that is visible is temporary & subject to change
- Sickness, circumstances, being broke financially, family problems
- Look at things that are unseen; what does this mean?
- Making the word your final authority on life decisions
- Examples: faith
Hebrews 11:1
New King James Version (NKJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Ephesians 6:10
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
10: In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
- Our strength comes from him
- His strength has no limits
- Example: we are like cars that run out of gas, and God is our gas station to fill back up
- How do we draw strength from HIM?
- Spend time with Him, read the Word, devotion time, bible study, pray, talk to Him, listen to Him, obey what He tells you to do
James 4:6-8
New King James Version (NKJV)
6: But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”[a]
7: Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
- God gives grace to the humble: mercy, favor, supply, forgiveness, deliverance
- Humility Cures Worldliness
- Surrender your problem to the Lord. Surrender your circumstance to the Lord
Mark 11:22-24
King James Version (KJV)
22: And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23: For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24: Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
- The Faith of God; the God kind of Faith
- Whosoever shall say; are you a whosoever?
- The version of the word say comes up 4 times in verse 23
- Confession is important: I shall have whatsoever I saith
Psalm 91:1-5
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
1: He who [a]dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].
2: I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!
3: For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
4: [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.
5: You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,
Luke 6:45: For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (vs2) reference
Psalm 91:14-15
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
14: Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].
15: He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
