SERMON NOTES:

The Word Became Flesh

Luke 1:28-38 - New King James Version

28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; [a]blessed are you among women!”

29 But [b]when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

35 And the angel answered and said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

  • The same way The Holy Spirit came upon Mary is the same way a person becomes a new born child of God when they call on the name of Jesus to save them

  • Nothing is impossible when the Holy Spirit comes on the scene

    • Supernatural created the natural/ parent to the child

    • Supernatural realm stronger than the natural realm

  • According to your word be it done unto me

    • Can you say that?

    • Can you attach your faith of agreement to God’s word for your life?

Luke 1:45 - New Living Translation

45 You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

  • It wasn’t just the word of Gabriel, but all the prophecies for thousands of years about the coming Messiah that Mary had faith in

  • She knew God’s word on this subject matter

Joshua 23:14 - New King James Version

14 “Behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.

  • Joshua leader of Israelites; brought them to the promise land farewell speech before he died

  • I always like to talk to older men & women of God, who have been faithful

  • He says you all know if you are honest with yourselves that not one thing the Lord has spoken ever failed

Jeremiah 1:12 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

12 Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.

Isaiah 55:11 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

John 1:14 - New King James Version

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

  • Jesus was God’s word throughout the years manifested here on the earth

  • Isaiah prophesied Jesus would be born of a virgin

Mark 4:13-14 & vs 20 - New King James Version

13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word.

20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Mark 4:26-29 - New King James Version

26 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

  • Kingdom of God principle- explains how God the Father made the word become flesh (manifested promises)

  • The seed / the word grows when we put it in our heart

    • The word does the work

  • Man’s heart (where faith works) is the soil/earth that yields the crop, and the quality of the soil will determine the harvest

    • Your faith works (grows stronger) when you attach your agreement to God’s Word

    • His words become flesh just like Jesus

Proverbs 4:23 - New Living Translation

23 Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.

  • Your heart is where your faith starts

  • Then you must get your head, mouth, and actions to line up with what God’s word says on the subject

  • God loves when we come to Him to remind Him of His word

Luke 1:45 - New Living Translation

45 You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

  • Mary was blessed & Highly favored, because she believed God would do what He said He would do
