Be a Disciple of Christ not a Church member

Matthew 22:36-40 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

36 Teacher, which [a]kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light—which are heavy?]

37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).

38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.

40 These two commandments [b]sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.

• Its progress I am always growing, I still have room to grow in love

• I am not where I used to be selfish, cold hearted, insensitive, unemotional

John 14:15-16 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

15 If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands.

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—

• Measure your love for God with the measure of your obedience

• What area of my life am I holding back from God

• Ask and He will give you the Holy Spirit

• Invisible helper- praying in tongues daily

Matthew 28:18-20 - New Living Translation

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

• Go make disciples not church members (full of power and grace)

• Ask someone to who is strong in an area you are weak to disciple you

• Learn from someone that God has blessed in that area

• Look to disciple someone else

• Help them learn from your mistakes

• Compress timeframes (delivered from evil)

• Get baptized in water

• Public declaration that Jesus is your Lord and Savior

• It’s a command of Jesus last words

• Re-baptized (baby) or rededicate your life

Matthew 16:24-26 - New Living Translation

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?[a] Is anything worth more than your soul?

• What are you not willing to give up for the Lord (ask yourself?)

Mark 8:34 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

34 And Jesus called [to Him] the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself [forget, ignore, disown, and [a]lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross, and [[b]joining Me as a disciple and siding with My party] follow [c]with Me [continually, cleaving steadfastly to Me].

• What do you need to give up for the Lord (crucify in your life)

• Your time, TV, News, social media, drinking, vaping, smoking, worrying, gossiping, your money, spending habits, eating habits, too much sleep

• Join a bible study or discipleship group

• Host or lead a bible study

• Continually cleave abide in Christ

Matthew 6:33 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

33 But seek ([a]aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness ([b]His way of doing and being right), and then all these things [c]taken together will be given you besides.

• If you Love the Lord obey His commandments

• Is God first priority in your life? 

• Would others label you a disciple of Christ or just a church goer?

• Prayer:  

• Repent Confess our sins (let Holy Spirit guide you)

• forgive others

• ask the Holy Spirit to fill and over fill you with His power, grace, & presence
