SERMON NOTES:

Righteousness Through Faith

2 Timothy 3:15-16 - King James Version

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Ephesians 2:8-9 - Modern English Version

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, 9 not of works, so that no one should boast.

Romans 5:1-2 - Amplified Bible

Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed). Through Him we also have access by faith into this [remarkable state of] grace in which we [firmly and safely and securely] stand. Let us rejoice in our [a]hope and the confident assurance of [experiencing and enjoying] the glory of [our great] God [the manifestation of His excellence and power].

  • We experience Manifestation of God’s glory by grace

  • We experience God’s grace by knowing we are made righteous

  • We were made righteous by faith in Jesus’ redemption sacrifice

    • You plus Jesus is enough for eternal life, healing, deliverance, getting out of debt, restoration of marriages, prodigal son’s to come home

Philippians 3:9 - New Living Translation

and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.[a] For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

  • Obeying the law -Self-effort, self-performance, behavior (Be good to get good)

  • Faith in Jesus performance not our own/ One with Him

  • Rest in what Jesus has done is more than enough

Galatians 5:3-4 - New Living Translation

I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.

  • Self-effort without God is how you fall away from grace

    • You are cut off from grace

Galatians 2:20-21 - King James Version

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

  • Trying to attain righteousness without God is how you frustrate grace

Romans 8:1-2 - Modern English Version

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the SpiritFor the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

  • Adam & Eve hid from God after they sinned, b/c of guilt, shame, condemnation

  • When condemnation attacks: You must Say out loud , “I am the righteousness of God in Christ”

Psalm 103:2-5 - Modern English Version

Bless the Lord, O my soul,    and forget not all His benefits,  3 who forgives all your iniquities,    who heals all your diseases,4 who redeems your life from the pit,    who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
who satisfies your mouth with good things,  so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

  • Sins are forgiven the healing comes

  • Youth is renewed

Matthew 9:4-6 - Modern English Version

Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, pick up your bed, and go into your house.”

  • Sins are forgiven the healing comes

Luke 13:11-13 & vs 16 - King James Version

11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Luke 13:16 - King James Version

16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
