MEMORIAL EVENT: William Satterthwaite

Our brother William Satterthwaite, husband of the late Donna Satterthwaite, went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2023. We know as believers in Christ where he is now, and that we too will see him again with our Lord Jesus Christ. We send our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to his family. We will have a short memorial service to celebrate Willie's life this Sunday after worship. Doors open to the public 11:30am and Memorial service will begin 12:15pm.

Sermon - Stories OF LIFE

  • Willie a part of this church as an usher with his wife Donna. He was the hugger and Donna would pass out an offering envelope. I was a teenager some 30-35 years ago in Chicago when my family started coming to this church (back then in Oak Park).  I really don’t remember anyone ever hugging me, especially another man, before Willie’s bear hugs.

  • He and his wife would minister at the Oak Park Arms retirement community late 80’s & 90’s with Pastor Jay Weaver.  The crowds weren’t the biggest, and the retired people had nothing to give back in return.  They would pray over the chairs in hopes people would come to hear the good news that Jesus saves.

  • Willie couldn’t come to the church the past few years, but he would always be praying and asking how everyone was doing by name.

  • Willie would wonder with me why he was still here living in the Oakbrook Rehab/ retirement Home.  And we both just concluded that God wasn’t done with him yet.  This was true when he Willie received his roommate assignment, a man named Ralph.  They were so opposite an odd couple for sure (Oscar & Felix).  After awhile they became good friends, and my visits were with both of them.  We prayed together, and we took communion together.

  • Elmhurst Hospital visits- our talks – about seeing Jesus and missing his wife Donna.

  • Refer back to scripture. Willie knew His Redeemer Liveth, and that He would see God, and would see Donna again Heaven.

  • Explain the Christian Faith and how to get saved

  • Pray the Sinners prayer. Or recommit your life to Jesus

SCRIPTURE - Psalm 23 - A Psalm of David

23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not [a]want.
2 He makes me to lie down in [b]green pastures;
He leads me beside the [c]still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will [d]dwell in the house of the Lord
[e]Forever.
