SERMON NOTES

Christmas Birth and The New Birth

Luke 1:26-45 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings,[a] favored woman! The Lord is with you![b]”

29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel[c] forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. 36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the word of God will never fail.[d]”

38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.

  • The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the Most High will over shadow you

  • For the Word of God will never fail

  • Mary’s response: May everything you have said about me come true

Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town 40 where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. 41 At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42 Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. 43 Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? 44 When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. 45 You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

  • Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost (gave her inside information)

  • Your child is blessed (she wasn’t showing, a few days)

  • Mary was blessed, because you believed that the Lord would do what he said

Romans 10:9-10 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  • The same miracle working power over Mary hovers over people when they are born again

  • new birth by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior

  • Believes in the heart (not their head)

  • Confess your allegiance with your mouth for all of heaven, earth, & under the earth that Jesus is Lord

2 Corinthians 5:17 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

  • That instant the Holy Spirit instantly re-creates the new nature

  • Eternal life- is engrafted joined together one spirit with Christ

  • That new spirit is 100% just like Jesus (1 john 4:17)

2 Corinthians 3:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)

18 And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.

  • Learn and gain revelational knowledge

  • The bible is a spiritual mirror reflecting who you are in Christ

  • The real you (new recreated spirit) is just like Jesus the 1st born from the dead

2 Corinthians 5:18-21 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

18 But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him].

19 It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor).

20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God.

21 For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [[a]endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

  • Jesus paid the price for all your sins (past, present, future)

  • He was your substitute, your eternal redemption

  • Jesus blood shed washed, cleansed, and was enough to overcome sin, death, and the devil for the whole world
