SERMON NOTES

Next Level: Be Filled with the Holy Ghost

Mark 16:15-20 King James Version (KJV)

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

  • Last words of Jesus on this earth, pay attention

  • Go & Preach the gospel (Jesus saves, grace, forgiveness)

  • Signs follow the believer (you & me are believers)

  • One of these signs (evidence) speaking in other tongues

    • The holy spirit is not speaking in tongues, and speaking in tongues is not the holy spirit, but they go hand and hand

  • The Lord’s job to confirm His word with these signs following you & me

Acts 1:4-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with[a] water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

  • The Holy Spirit is a gift promised by the Father

  • Different baptism than water

  • Be baptized with the Holy Ghost

Acts 2:1-4 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Holy Spirit Comes

On the day of Pentecost[aall the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages,[b] as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

  • Holy Spirit is for the Believers

  • Everyone was filled with the Holy Ghost

  • Speaking in tongues is evidence, a sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit gives them the ability

Acts 8:14-17 King James Version (KJV)

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

  • These were believers, who received the word of God and were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ

  • Peter & John were sent to get them to the next level and receive the Holy Ghost

  • Peter & John prayed and laid on hands on them

  • They received the Holy Ghost

Acts 10:44-46 King James Version (KJV)

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

  • Holy Spirit fell on people while they heard the Word

  • The gift of the Holy Ghost poured out on non Jews

    • God is no respecter of person (Jew or non-Jew)

  • the gentiles speaking in tongues was a sign, evidence of their belief
