SERMON NOTES

Joy is a Weapon

Intro:

  • who needs more Joy in their life?

  • Happiness (feeling) comfort level vs joy (what you know/ truth)

John 8:32 New King James Version (NKJV)

32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

  • Take some time to smile, laugh, and praise the Lord

2 Timothy 1:7 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

  • I encourage everyone to memorize this verse

  • Take a deep breath before we say the word calm

Psalm 34:4 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

I sought (inquired of) the Lord and required Him [of necessity and on the authority of His Word], and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

  • Seek the Lord on the authority of His word

  • What does the word say about this situation?

  • Say, “no fear here”

Nehemiah 8:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

  • More word=More joy = more strength

  • No word=No joy= no strength= your weak= your emotional= emotional decisions not based on God’s word= fear & depression

Philippians 4:4-8 New King James Version (NKJV)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Let your [a]gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things

  • Rejoice always

  • Put a guard over your heart & mind

  • Meditate on / think on these things

Acts 5:40-41 New King James Version (NKJV)

40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for [a]His name.

  • They were just beaten, and they departed rejoicing

  • Why does the word say rejoice always; there is a hidden power in Joy

  • Next time you get some bad news or bad report Rejoice! I dare you!

John 16:33 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

  • In Christ we are in perfect peace

  • Why should we be of good cheer?

    • Jesus has overcome the world

James 1:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces [a]patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [b]perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

  • Testing of your faith (authenticity)

    • Prove your faith to yourself

  • Patience- be the same (composure)

    • Patience perfect work will make you perfect, complete, lacking nothing

      • Wanting nothing

Psalm 118:24 New King James Version (NKJV)

24 This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

  • let’s demonstrate this again, now that we just heard the word on Joy

    • let’s put this weapon to use

    • opening a new toy or tech

  • Stand up, joy is what you know (the truth)

  • Spend some time praising him, smiling, laughing, thanking Him
