SERMON NOTES

Don’t Believe the Lies

John 14:1 The Passion Translation (TPT)

14 “Don’t worry or surrender to your fear.[a] For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.[b]

  • Have you surrendered your agreement to fear

    • Have you been making Fear based choices/ decisions

    • Have you been making faith based choices/ decisions

  • Walk by faith, live by faith (faith in what God says)

Luke 10:19 The Passion Translation (TPT)

19 Now you understand that I have imparted to you all my authority to trample over his kingdom. You will trample upon every demon before you and overcome every power[a] Satan possesses. Absolutely nothing will be able to harm you as you walk in this authority.

  • Jesus gave you His authority

  • Ask Me anything in my Name (His authority)

  • All power over a believer is started by giving power/ our authority to something that is a lie of the enemy

    • Something that goes contrary & against the word of God

  • There is no power in a lie UNLESS you give your agreement

    • Absolutely Nothing will be able to harm me

    • As I walk in Jesus authority

Genesis 3:1-6 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Man and Woman Sin

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

“Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

  • devil tries to get Eve to question what God says (the truth)

    • Has God said? (not to eat the fruit)

  • Eve, tempted by what she saw (choice/ decision)

    • Wanted to be like God (wanted God’s wisdom)

  • Gave fruit to her husband to eat

    • Adam was right next to her the whole time

Luke 3:21-22 New King James Version (NKJV)

John Baptizes Jesus

21 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

Luke 4:1-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

Satan Tempts Jesus

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit [a]into the wilderness, being [b]tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, [c]but by every word of God.’ ”

  • Trying to get Jesus to question what God said

    • His identity (beloved son)

James 4:7 The Passion Translation (TPT)

So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you.

  • Have you surrendered your life-choices to God?

    • Faith based decisions

  • stand up to the lies of this world

    • fear based decisions

  • resist (action word, verb, fight) and he will run from you

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 New King James Version (NKJV)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholdscasting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

  • our weapons are spiritual to pull down these negative thought patterns (strongholds)

  • casting down (action word, verb) arguments, reasonings, imaginations that goes against God’s word (knowledge of God)

  • bringing every thought

    • letting one negative thought or any thought that goes against God is not acceptable

John 8:31-32 New Living Translation (NLT)

31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:36 New Living Translation (NLT)

36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
