VIRTUAL SERMON:

SERMON NOTES:

Unity vs. Strife

Personal level unity with God (get saved/ born again)

Romans 5:9-11 - Amplified Bible

Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the [a]wrath of God through Him. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more certain, having been reconciled, that we will be saved [from the consequences of sin] by His life [that is, we will be saved because Christ lives today]. 11 Not only that, but we also rejoice in God [rejoicing in His love and perfection] through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received and enjoy our reconciliation [with God].

  • We have unity with God because of what Jesus has done (not your performance or behavior)

Proverbs 3:1-6 - Amplified Bible

My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of life [worth living]And tranquility and prosperity [the wholeness of life’s blessings] they will add to you. Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you]; Bind them [securely] around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. [b]In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].

  1. Family in strife vs walking in Love

James 3:16 - King James Version

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

  • Blessed is the peacemaker

  • Strife leads to confusion- have you ever been confused? Check for strife

  • Strife- opens the door of opportunity for every evil work

Ephesians 4:26-27 - Amplified Bible

26 When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.

27 Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].

2 John 6 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

And what this love consists in is this: that we live and walk in accordance with and guided by His commandments (His orders, ordinances, precepts, teaching). This is the commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you continue to walk in love [guided by it and following it].

Church Unity / One Accord

Matthew 7:1-2 - Amplified Bible

Do not judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.

For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.

  • Boomerang- Haman (hanged on the very Gallows he prepared for Mordecai/ book of Esther)

  • God is not mocked you reap what you sow

  • Criticize God’s kids- didn’t like praise & worship, favorite Sunday school teacher, attitude when different pastors teach

  • How about mask vs. not wearing a mask (division)

Acts 2:1-4 - New King James Version

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

  • The Holy Spirit is allowed to flow when the Church is in one accord

  • Nothing more powerful than a unified church walking together in love

  • A few verses later we read that 3000 souls came to Christ that day

  1. Unity with other churches in the body of Christ

  • Division and comparison:  our church is better, our praise and worship is better, our pastor is better, that church is too big (no intimacy), church too small (no programs)

  • People church hop- they don’t stay where God planted them to have their root system be established

    • Tactic of the devil/ divide and pick us off one by one

  • I always try to find what we have in common with other churches, something we can agree on not what we disagree with

    • Common ground that we can be in one accord in unity so that holy spirit can flow

Adam when my people are in unity and one accord then the Holy Spirit is allowed to flow uninterrupted and without resistance
