VIRTUAL SERMON

SERMON NOTES:

Faith in Action Plus Living Holy

Romans - 12:1-2

12 I beseech[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to Godwhich is your [b]reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  • Commit & be determined to live Holy

    • Use your body as a living sacrifice to serve the Lord

  • Don’t be conformed to this world

    • Raised to honor & respect authority & don’t break the law

    • If it’s legal doesn’t mean it is okay for you to do

      • Example drinking alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, sex before marriage, living together before marriage, homosexuality, abortion

Romans 6:23 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

23 For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • Consequences for sin; God can’t go against His word

    • The foundations of the world have been built upon His word

    • As much as He wants to bless you and get favor to you; He can’t

  • What’s the answer, when you are in a lifestyle of sin?  Repent (change one’s mind, attitude, action, 180-degree change, go the other way.

Romans 5:19-21 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

19 For just as by one man’s disobedience (failing to hear, [a]heedlessness, and carelessness) the many were constituted sinners, so by one Man’s obedience the many will be constituted righteous (made acceptable to God, brought into right standing with Him).

20 But then Law came in, [only] to expand and increase the trespass [making it more apparent and exciting opposition]. But where sin increased and abounded, grace (God’s unmerited favor) has surpassed it and increased the more and superabounded,

21 So that, [just] as sin has reigned in death, [so] grace (His unearned and undeserved favor) might reign also through righteousness (right standing with God) which issues in eternal life through Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) our Lord.

  • He is faithful & Just to cleanse you of all unrighteousness (repent)

  • God’s grace is greater than your sin (understand the comparison)

    • Get out of shame and condemnation; works based religion

    • Saved by grace, not your behavior or actions

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

Three times I called upon the Lord and besought [Him] about this and begged that it might depart from me;

But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and [a]show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may [b]pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!

10 So for the sake of Christ, I am well pleased and take pleasure in infirmities, insults, hardships, persecutions, perplexities and distresses; for when I am weak [[c]in human strength], then am I [truly] strong (able, powerful [d]in divine strength).

1 Corinthians 10:13 - New King James Version

13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to [a]bear it.

  • Everyone is going through temptation (heaven will no temptation)

  • He has already your way of escape, out of it

    • How do you access it? Faith in His grace

James 2:20 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

20 Are you willing to be shown [proof], you foolish (unproductive, spiritually deficient) fellow, that faith apart from [good] works is inactive and ineffective and worthless?

  • Think like God, Talk like me, Act like me

  • Faith without corresponding actions (your words must line up with your actions for faith to work)

  • Your actions are proof to yourself that you believe (prove you are His disciple)

Examples of faith in Action

10 lepers- Go show yourself to the priest (healed as they went- action)

4 friends/roof- pick up your mat and go (faith to respond to Jesus’s word)

Giving (Luke 6:36-37/ I Corinthians 9:8)
