VIRTUAL SERMON

SERMON NOTES:

Change Starts on the Inside

  • Repentance (change) starts in the heart of a person

  • Hear, receive, and do (apply it)

  • The Lord is looking for people who trust Him

    • Obedience proves my trust in Him

1 Samuel 16:7 - New King James Version

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have [a]refused him. For[b] the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 15:22-23 - New Living Translation

22 But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice?  Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.  23 Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.  So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”

  • Saul lost the position as king, because he put the approval of people ahead of what the Lord told him to do (compromise)

James 4:17 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

17 So any person who knows what is right to do but does not do it, to him it is sin.

John 14:21 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

21 The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.]

James 1:21-25 - New King James Version

21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and [a]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Romans 10:17 - New King James Version

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Mark 11:24 - New King James Version

24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Joshua 1:8 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good [a]success.

Psalm 1:1-3 - New King James Version

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.  3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

James 4:5-7 - New Living Translation

5 Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him. 6 And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Isaiah 55:11 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
