SERMON NOTES

Faith Believes, and then Speaks

Hebrews 11:6 - Modern English Version

And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Ephesians 5:1 - New King James Version

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

John 5:19 - Modern English Version

19 Then Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do. For whatever He does, likewise the Son does.

James 2:19-21 - New King James Version

19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [a]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

2 Corinthians 4:13 - Modern English Version

13 We have the same spirit of faith. As it is written, “I believed, and therefore I have spoken.”[a] So we also believe and therefore speak,

Romans 4:17 - Modern English Version

17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”[a]) before God whom he believed, and who raises the dead, and calls those things that do not exist as though they did.

Hebrews 11:3 - Modern English Version

By faith we understand that the universe was framed by the word of God, so that things that are seen were not made out of things which are visible.

Isaiah 46:9-10 - Modern English Version

Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning,
and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My good pleasure,”

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 - Modern English Version

27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. 28 And God has chosen the base things of the world and things which are despised. Yes, and He chose things which did not exist to bring to nothing things that do, 29 so that no flesh should boast in His presence.

Matthew 17:19-20 - New King James Version

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your [a]unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Luke 17:6 - New King James Version

So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Hebrews 10:23 - Modern English Version

23 Let us firmly hold the profession of our faith without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Examples:

Mark 5:22-23 - Modern English Version

22 One of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, saw Jesus and came and fell at His feet 23 and earnestly asked Him, “My little daughter is lying at the point of death. I ask You, come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed. And she will live.”

Mark 5:25-29 - Modern English Version

25 And a certain woman had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had suffered much under many physicians. She had spent all that she had, and was not better but rather grew worse. 27 When she had heard of Jesus, she came in the crowd behind Him and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If I may touch His garments, I shall be healed.” 29 And immediately her hemorrhage dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.

1 Samuel 17:45-47 - Modern English Version

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have reviled. 46 This day will the Lord deliver you into my hand. And I will strike you down and cut off your head. Then I will give the corpses of the Philistine camp this day to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And then all this assembly will know that it is not by sword and spear that the Lord saves. For the battle belongs to the Lord, and He will give you into our hands.”

Luke 7:7-9 - Modern English Version

Likewise, I did not think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard these words, He marveled at him, and turned and said to the people who followed Him, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
