SUNDAY SERMON

SERMON NOTES:

Freedom: 3 Types of Forgiveness

Freedom is the Goal- live free to complete God’s plan for your life

  • Free to be who God created you to be

  • Free to complete of every good work the Lord has put on your heart

  • Free to complete your destiny- fulfill God’s plan for your life

    • Finish your race, Finish strong, finish well

Romans 8:14-16 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

15 For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God.

Proverbs 20:27 - New King James Version

27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the [a]inner depths of his heart.

  • Flow of every believer by faith- spirit to soul to body (physical realm)

  • Stepping out of God’s grace into human performance or behavior

    • Stops or slows down the flow

    • Stay in grace – Only Believe

  1. God Has already Forgiven all the sins of the world

  • Issue is people need to receive God’s forgiveness; Through Jesus finished works

  • Free from the effects of sin

  • Free will – your Choice to live under blessing or curses of the law

Colossians 1:12-14 - New Living Translation

12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom[a] and forgave our sins.

Ephesians 1:7 - New Living Translation

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 - New Living Translation

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This[a] is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

John 3:16, John 14:1, John 14:27

Christians Living in Unbelief: Not in grace

  1. Haven’t fully forgiven themselves of past sins (condemnation)

  2. In & out Christians, haven’t studied the word to show themselves an approved workman,

  3. Don’t know how to answer the attacks of the devil with the sword of the Spirit “it is written”

2 Corinthians 5:17 - New Living Translation

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Forgive yourself of the past: That was the old you (nature of the devil- selfish (steal, kill, and destroy))

  1. If blood of Jesus good enough for God the Father, it NEEDS to be good enough for you

  2. Reason you feel more bad about sin now is you have a new nature

    1. Hate sin- repel sin (James 4:17)

Romans 8:1-3 - Amplified Bible

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son],

Acts 13:38-39 - Amplified Bible

38 So let it be clearly known by you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you; 39 and through Him everyone who believes [who acknowledges Jesus as Lord and Savior and follows Him] is [a]justified and declared free of guilt from all things, from which you could not be justified and freed of guilt through the Law of Moses.

Galatians 2:20-21 - New Living Translation

20 My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

Forgiving Others:

  1. Sowing & Reaping- The more you forgive others (seed sown) the more Mercy (Harvest) you will have in your time of need

  2. Unforgiveness is the Biggest blessing blocker (flow spirit-soul-body)

  3. Unforgiveness is a form of pride- holding on to past hurts

  4. A form of doubt that leads to unbelief (no faith)

Mark 11:22-25 - Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

22 And Jesus, replying, said to them, Have faith in God [constantly].

23 Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.

24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].

25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and [a]let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.

James 5:14-18 - New King James Version

14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Psalm 103:1-4 - New King James Version

103 Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
